Shopify now supports collection of the EU's flat EUR 3 customs duty per tariff line for qualifying orders up to EUR 150 shipped into the EU from outside the EU. The change is effective July 1, 2026.
What Changed
For merchants using Shopify Managed Markets, the fee is calculated, displayed, and collected at checkout. For merchants using Shopify import tax and duty calculation, the fee is included in the duty amount shown at checkout so it can be collected from the customer with other duties.
Why Sellers Should Care
Cross-border merchants need accurate landed-cost calculations to avoid surprise fees, failed deliveries, refund requests, and support tickets. The update is especially relevant for UK, US, and other non-EU sellers shipping directly to EU buyers.
What To Do Next
- Review EU shipping settings before July 1, 2026.
- Confirm product tariff classification data is clean.
- Update customer service scripts for EU duty questions.
- Test checkout on EU markets to confirm duty display and collection.
